If a member passes away prior to retirement, there are considerations and decisions to make regarding the MEPP pension benefit.

Notify us and the member's employer of the death. The employer will need to send an official notice to MEPP and we can get the process started.

Death certificate or funeral director's certificate of death

Marriage certificate (if applicable)

Death options are normally handled in approximately 10 days of receipt of all required documents.

There are no fees associated with processing a death.

Notify MEPP by email of the death of the member
Include a scanned certified copy of the death certificate or funeral director's certificate of death
Include a scanned certified copy of the marriage certificate or common-law declaration (if applicable)
MEPP will send a personalized package of information to the named beneficiary(ies) or the estate outlining all the options.
Email the form in the package back to us to advise us of your decision.
